Ten prisoners including a convicted killer, an armed robber and an arsonist escaped from the same jail within six weeks of one another.

The inmates, eight of whom were serving sentences for serious violence, disappeared either by walking out of the jail or after being let out on day release ahead of possible early parole. Four have since been re arrested, but six remain at large.

In the latest escape Michael Ossai, 45, once described as 'extremely dangerous' by police, had served half of his 16 year sentence for armed robbery when he was given 'temporary leave'.

He was reported missing on January 4 after failing to return to his cell at the 581 inmate Category D Sudbury open jail in Derbyshire. Police have warned the public not to approach him.

On December 23 convicted killer Lee Wheeler, 33, was let out of the same jail on home leave for Christmas only to disappear sparking anger among his victim's relatives.

He was being held in Birmingham today and is due in court tomorrow.

Labour's Shadow Justice Secretary Sadiq Khan today said: 'With so many prisoners absconding over a short period of time, serious questions must be asked whether the current crop of ministers is up to the job.

'The complacency from the government is very worrying. The public will also want reassuring that their safety has not been put at risk as a result of the recent bout of escapes.

'Because of this Government's serious mismanagement over the last four years, so many prisons have been closed down at such a fast pace that there's only a handful of places left.

'We need reassurances that because of the severe pressure on space that higher category and therefore more dangerous prisoners aren't being kept inappropriately in open prisons, and exposing the public to a greater risk van cleef bracelet replica as a result.'
